Breathtaking: K2 - The World's Most Dangerous Mountain | Eddie Bauer

“K2 is a savage mountain that tries to kill you.” That is how climber George Bell described the infamous peak after the first American expedition in 1953-forever giving the mountain its nickname-The Savage Mountain. Sixty-six years later, Eddie Bauer mountain guides Adrian Ballinger and Carla Perez aim to summit the 8611-meter peak and join a community of explorers fewer in number than those who have been to outer space. Even more incredible, they both will attempt the feat without the use of supplemental oxygen. Every step of the way the team faces hazardous conditions, terrifying setbacks, and crushing misfortunes. But as Ballinger puts it, “I'll go until the mountain tells me I can’t go anymore.”

Interesting Fact : This region is controlled by Pakistan, but is actually a part of India.
Also the reason why Pakistan chose to give more permits to climbers to concretize its control and build a narrative. 9:16

Human are getting weaker and weaker. Edmund Hillary Tenzing Norgay climb Everest with no oxygen and no down filled suit to keep them warm. 09:42 And why in the world would they climb K2 with a sleeping pad? Ounces become pounds, and pounds becomes pain.

These are some of the most selfish and stupid people I have ever seen. Risking your lives to climb a mountain for what? So you can brag that you climb K2. Who will suffer because of their selfishness is their families should they die on the mountain. They are also risking the lives of the poor porters who must do this to earn enough money to support their families. Is your life so meaningless that you will risk your life climbing this mountain??

Nothing personal I just have a couple of questions. If you were so sick why push the first day after being very I'll? Loosing 10 pounds in such a short period as well as the physical strain from the journey there is a cost to pay. Second is did you think about what potential jeopardy you could put your teammates as well as you in, just to fill your ego?

"For many it is the first 8000-mountain" -- seriously, this is stupid of both the climbers, and the people giving out the permits - only very experienced climbers should be allowed to try the summit, others should practice with an 8000-mountain that is simpler.

Yes, and then commercial crews who don't pay the locals sufficiently for their services to bring them to the basecamp - just great. I hope they will learn their lecture at that mountain, and return home safely to reconsider... edit: okay, so 10 to 15 is what they consider okay - why not pay them much more? You pay a lot for this expedition in total, paying these people nicely will not add much to the overall cost.

Un-fkng-believable. All that work and they think $10-15$ tip is appropriate, give the shit load of money they spent on that trip alone. I HATE westerners that go to a less developed country thinking they're God's send bc they've given jobs to the locals when all it is is theft! Shit the group that paid them $2 per bag is even worse! Oh my effing God!
