Platon is an orator who takes pictures. His stories always supersede the photograph. His commutation skills are why he has survived in an industry surrounded by better photographers, but who couldn’t compete with his oratorical skills.

This video get so many negativity because you show politician picture and not focus with what photography really are like... what the essence ? Technical? Execution in photograph. What makes one photo beautiful, whats not.

Your recording moments of light....... and your adjusting those moments to suit... With the amount of editing i see your doing from film via scanning hi-res to manipulate those moments of light and you don't acknowledge at any time your team and editors that bring out the best from each image, take away or replace that team and trust me you would fall from grace... And you don't use digital... cant work that one out in my head... using both formats can and should give you more room for movement.... exploring ones limit as a photographer is ones goal...but looking at any of your images i see steady as she goes attitude or a safety net ... sticking to one look and feel has i feel boxed you... open that box and shoot with your eyes closed you will be shocked at what you see on your proof sheets. give your editors a pay rise..

platon is an amazing artist but im no longer endeared to his work because how they have portrayed the situation in congo as if local rebels is the problem why such places are poor despite having the most natural resources. shame.

If you're an artist, don't get political. People will think you're telling the truth when you're not.

Btw Edward Bernays is the guy who invented the American breakfast to help the meat market selling their bacon. No joke.
Ali
Elmar live wow, glad I commended and got your insight. Amazing thoughts man. Thanks for your reply:
Elmar live
@Ali Didn't say he did. But somehow it crossed my mind while watching this, so it must have been triggered by something. Maybe it's the people he works for. They can put his art into whatever context they want. Journalism has nothing to do with "capturing someone's soul". In my opinion every photo is a lie. This might be a bit strict. But art is the only source of information that lies to us and still we learn from it. That makes it the most pure and honest teacher I can imagine. Putting it into a context of your choice turns it into propaganda. We got too used to it so I thought this might be worth a comment.
Ali
Not saying you're wrong or I disagree, but can you maybe give an example of when he falsely represented "truth".

His sublime sensitivity to his subjects at the most intimate of moments is an inspiration, not just for its art but for its sheer humanity.
It reminds me of the work of the late David Bohm, a Nobel prize-winning quantum physicist who is equally as well known for his philosoophy and deep inquiries into the nature of consciousness, explored through a simple term he called "dialogue." When he explained his concept of dialogue, the simplest summation I've heard, is that to enter into a deep dialogue with another human being you have to show "attention and care." The purpose of dialogue was to get past the baggage that we all bring to conversation and relationships, that comes from our personal history. Bohm wanted to connect with the human being, not that baggage. And his notion of "care" was the essence of how he went about it: he connected with his care for another human being.
Platon's work embodies Bohm's notion of dialogue exquisitely.

This statement right here: 36:23 "...Because if I get it wrong, I can actually do great harm." This statement just culminated my respect for Planton and has defined his work ethic for me. How many photo-journalists do you think go to Africa to take photage of African people then end up with portraits of Africa & her people that corrupts the view of non-Africans who's only window into the life of the mother- land is the Frame of the camera they pointed at Africa.
